DALLAS – Dallas-based interior design firm Staffelbach was named the inaugural recipient of the Cary M. Maguire “Spirit of Ethics” Award, at the Greater Dallas Business Ethics Awards luncheon, Tuesday, May 17. In addition to the Maguire trophy, Staffelbach was one of four honorees receiving the Greater Dallas Business Award for exceptional ethics in business.
The 2016 GDBEA honorees are: Imprimis Group, Lone Star Analysis, Staffelbach, and UR Holdings.
The Cary M. Maguire “Spirit of Ethics” Award was created to recognize companies that demonstrate and champion above-and-beyond ethical practices. This new level of recognition is named for Dallas businessman, philanthropist and longtime GDBEA supporter Cary Maguire.
“We are humbled and honored to be recognized by this great organization, Staffelbach President and CEO Jo Heinz noted, “To be celebrated for how you run your company and for your firm’s values, character and integrity is the most special award we could receive.”
“Our program would not be where it is without the support of Cary Maguire,” said Michael Webb, Chairman of the Greater Dallas Business Ethics Award. “He embodies the qualities that define principled behavior in business, public service and our personal lives. In honor of Mr. Maguire’s longtime commitment to and tireless advocacy for ethics, we established the Cary Maguire Spirit of Ethics Award.”
Cary Maguire established The Maguire Center for Ethics & Public Responsibility at SMU in 1995. Since then the Center has supported student and faculty ethics-related education and activities, as well as outreach to community, private and public institutions.
Keynote speaker Richard Bowen, the Citigroup whistleblower who warned Citi executive management about risky business practices related to mortgage lending prior to 2008, shared his experience and discussed the value of ethics for the future of business in America.
The program was presented by Akin Gump, Better Business Bureau® serving Dallas and Northeast Texas and D CEO Magazine. The Greater Dallas Business Ethics Award recognizes local companies that have made a commitment to ethical business practices and demonstrate that commitment in their everyday operations, management philosophies, and in response to crises or challenges.
